Wildlife Emergencies

Wherever you live it is possible to encounter native or other wildlife in trouble. Most areas have laws preventing the handling or care of non-domestic animals without proper licensing. If you encounter a wild animal you believe to have been injured or abandoned remember, it is important to get qualified, professional advice before you attempt to act on your own. Most of the time it is best left alone. If you do not know who to call in your area, call us (Kisma Preserve 207-667-3244) and we may be able to advise you or know a resource nearby. Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing at all.

Non-Domestic Placement

We accept non-domestic animals on an individual, case by case basis, based on many factors including but not limited to: available space, compatibility, financial limitations, legal issues and too many others to list here. We are not a law enforcement agency. We accept animals from many backgrounds and circumstances including zoos, private owners and animals in immediate crisis. If you are interested in sending an animal here please call us first. If you are one of the many exotic pet owners who has found yourself in a difficult situation we may be able to assist you with information and resources.
